You probably know the typical sleep hacks such as “bedtime is not screen time”, “go to bed at a fixed time”, and “avoid alcohol to get deep sleep”. The five hacks I present here are less known but can take your sleep quality to the next level.

Warm feet

You have probably gone to bed with cold feet and experienced difficulties falling asleep. For some reason, naturally getting warm feet takes a long time. I use a hot water bottle to heat my feet and reduce the time to fall asleep. I know this is a little “grandpa-like”, but who cares.

Empty your brain

You have probably been awake at some wee hour, received divine inspiration for some project, and gone back to sleep convinced that you will, of course, remember that Nobel-worthy idea in the morning. I have certainly experienced the frustration of waking up with a blank mind, except for the recollection of knowing I got a brilliant idea. The next stage in this is that you lie awake for longer to better remember the idea, which may work but often does not. The third and final stage is to write down the idea, i.e., empty your brain to avoid both losing your idea and sleep time.
